Nans Family Tree Quilt

No easy way of segueing into this so here goes... my nan has dementia.
I've been meaning to make her a Family Tree Quilt for awhile but I just haven't got around to it - needless to say this was the kick in the butt I needed!

I kept it simple because I wanted it done quickly... there was some discussion from my uncles/mum that she might not make Christmas.

I basically googled pictures of drawn trees to see if I could find one that would work for what I wanted and I landed on this one.
I liked that it had leaves all around the trunk and not just on the outside

I cut out different colour leaves and embroidered the names of her siblings, husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren - I wasn't sure how many I needed so I also added some of her nieces/nephews (and great nieces/nephews) and the spouses of those whose names I already wanted... I liked the fuller look! I ended up  using all but the great nieces/nephews.
I stuck them on using Heat 'n' Bond and did a blanket stich around each leaf

I backed it with fleece because she's always cold and I thought it would make it nicer to snuggle into.

I read somewhere that fleece can be a bit tricky to quilt so
I did some very simple free motion hearts in the corners and I went around the outline of the tree

She likes and uses it!!! (the picture is blurry because my mum  isn't capable of taking a decent one)
