WIP Broken Herringbone

Fabrics are chosen!!

Now I just have to settle on sashing!! How white should I go? snow? bright white?...
the choices for what is essentially white are ridiculous!!

In other news...

My sister is pregnant! yay a new baby quilt  niece/nephew.

I know I want it to be colourful, all baby stuff should be don't ya think? So it'll probably be scrappy (and I love scrappy quilts!)
Let the drawing commence...

So here are some of the ideas that I came up with. Various sawtooth stars, squares, hexagons, string pieced and a sort of log cabin one.
I was thinking the middle sawtooth star and the hexis...

But then my changeable nature set in when I stumbled onto Molli Sparkles blog and was transfixed by his Broken Herringbone Quilt (I'm not gonna lie, pretty much everything on there!)

So thats what I'm gonna do!... Promise

I'm off to raid my stash and scrap bins :)

WIP Perpendicular Ovals - Fabric/Colour

This is the bit I suck at - picking the fabrics/colours.
I don't know why I'm so bad at this part, if I knew I would fix it! but this is the part that give me the most trouble... but until you do this bit you can't do the other bits so I go online and look all over the place (blogs, pinterest, instagram, flickr, random google image searches) until I see something that sparks my interest. What did it for me was the yellows and greys that I was seeing, they looked so bright, fresh, modern and all round awesome - BOOM job done!

Until.... I asked my friend if she hated any colours in particular or if she had a colour scheme in mind.
I should have kept my mouth shut. Oh why didn't I keep my mouth shut? I knew she didn't hate yellow, we've been friends since we where 14 for gods sake - why did I ask?!
But no, I opened that can of worms and she said... earthy tones - which to me means browns - there goes my bright quilt! (in hindsight I should have asked before I brought enough yellow fabric to sink a battleship).

Some frantic online shopping and one stash raid later....

Perpendicular Ovals

Success! and it only took a few hours, a lot of swearing and some of my 'never gonna use it' fabric.

So the finished quilt should look something like this, unless I change my mind of course!
I think I might add a border of some sort so the measurements might not be right by the end - I'll let you know

Now all I have to do is decide on colours and what fabric I'm going to use...

W.I.P - Perpendicular Ovals

The "W" in this particular W.I.P stands for Wedding quilt (so maybe it should read W.Q.I.P, but that's just weird), and this particular wedding is less than a year away. yikes.
I was going to be all traditional and do a double wedding ring quilt but they are not DWR kind of people (although I almost did it anyway because really want to make one!).

A Recent Finish

Baby Paige

A friend of mine is having her second child soon and what better excuse to make a quilt way to celebrate than with a quilt?
The Baby Shower is this weekend and the quilt is finished... that never happens! They normally sit around 3/4 finished till the 11th hour, I must have been very productive without even realizing it - gotta love it when that happens!

I used a pattern from Moda Bake Shop called Charming Squares*. As the name suggests its calls for charm squares but just cut up some yardage instead (I don't buy charms etc - I really don't know why, just one of my idiosyncrasy's).
Its a mixture of different fabrics and designers - I can't even remember what is in there, I just pulled stuff from my stash.

I may be crazy but I like to piece my backs too (double the fun right!)
This is inspired from another pattern on Moda* - I say inspired because it's not exactly the same, I looked at the picture and winged it.
I used the same fabrics that is on the 'front' with a few thrown in from my scrap stash

Add the label and it's finished!!

Blogging Universe - here I am!

I'm joining the quilting blog movement… albeit very late!

I read so many amazing blogs and each of them have inspired me in some way, so I figured I would keep the creative train going and hopefully stir something in others. Even if I fall flat in the inspiration leagues at least I’ll have a way of recording the things I make (always look on the bright side)

Let’s get the train going…
