I've made progress on this quilt too, I promise!
The back is done, I took some pictures on my phone but apparently I've deleted them... whoops.
You'll just have to take my word for it 'cause there is no way I'm digging that monster out to take some!
Have a picture of my cat Lola instead
I even have 3/4 of it quilted - but I stopped so I could finish my nieces quilt seen as she's coming first... I probably should get a wriggle on for baby Number 3 - I have done nothing so far......

Niece #2
It's finished!
It took me awhile but I finished it before the baby got here, yay me!

Side One is a Broke Herringbone, I've already written about this pattern so I won't repeat myself
Side Two is called Scrumptious Scrappy Chevron, I had to adjust the size but it's basically the same quilt - you just have to love Moda Bake Shop!

Perpendicular Ovals: The Back
This one has been giving me some real headaches!
I simply didn't know what to do for the back of this quilt - I don't have enough fabric to back it or any money to spend on new fabric either.
I have spent many an evening trying to figure out how to do it - lots or eureka moments followed by "no you idiot that won't work" moments.
So I let it sit on the back burner for a while and hoped it would ruminate in the back of my mind.
And what it came up with was...

Pieced hexis!! This way I can use the scraps of fabric that are left from doing the top of the quilt (even the tiny bits) and I don't have to buy any more fabric (yay and boo all at the same time)
But not the whole back obviously -1) I'm not that crazy and 2) I'm on a schedule.
I have 2 browns in my stash and I'm gonna use either side of a row or hexis and voilĂ

Progress!
Two updates required!
1) Broken Herringbone
My pictures suck but you get the point... all the blocks are pieced! Boom Baby!
These where a little tricky to do because the tutorial is done by a lefty - there where some WTF moments but I got there in the end.
All it needs is some sashing/boarders and the top is complete.
2) Perpendicular Ovals
The top is finished!! This quilt is a monster, I put it on the bed to get a picture and it wouldn't fit - way bigger than I imagined it would be (zero clue how I'm going to quilt this btw! how is it even going to fit in my machine?)
So now all I have to do is figure out the backing and quilt those suckers
I'm on fire baby!!

And breathe...
Soooo my friend who's getting married? yea she just dropped a bomb - she's pregnant!!
On one hand "Yes!!! super cute baby!" on the other "crap I have 3 quilts that are all 'due' in quick succession" I'm going to have heart failure!
1) Sisters Baby - Due early December
2) Friends Baby - Due January-ish
3) Friends Wedding Quilt - Due end of March (I know, 2 months - she's having more heart trouble than I am lol)
I haven't even started my sisters one yet...... it's times like these when I loath having to go to work!
So off to find another baby quilt pattern..... blimey!

Shades of white....
And the winner is...
| 1)Kona Oyster 2) Moda Snow 3) Moda White 4) Moda Ivory 5) Moda Natural 6) Moda Etching Stone |
The difference in shade is really easy to see in the picture for some reason! In person the only one that stands out as really different in the Etching Stone.
So after about 1 minute (if that) of looking at these shades of white (and beige) I went with white - shocking.
The dullest fabric deliberation I have ever had.
Perpendicular Ovals - Piecing Progres
Sorting out where the blocks where going to go was.... interesting. My bedroom floor was just about big enough - I couldn't walk around the edges (That definitely put a stop to unnecessary fiddling)
So now that part is done its time to get on with sewing the sections together. I'm going to piece it in small segments of 4x4 (or 3x4 at the end) and then sew those together, I think that makes the most sense (see below).
As you can see from the picture above the size of the quilt has changed (I did say that might happen!). When I was laying everything out on my floor I realized that the original size was huge - there wasn't actually space to do it! Seeing all the pieces in place next to my double bed just demonstrated how unnecessarily big it would be, so I cut 2 rows from the bottom and made it a square 77 inch top.

In other news...
My sister is pregnant! yay a new baby quilt niece/nephew.
I know I want it to be colourful, all baby stuff should be don't ya think? So it'll probably be scrappy (and I love scrappy quilts!)
Let the drawing commence...
So here are some of the ideas that I came up with. Various sawtooth stars, squares, hexagons, string pieced and a sort of log cabin one.
I was thinking the middle sawtooth star and the hexis...
But then my changeable nature set in when I stumbled onto Molli Sparkles blog and was transfixed by his Broken Herringbone Quilt (I'm not gonna lie, pretty much everything on there!)
So thats what I'm gonna do!... Promise
I'm off to raid my stash and scrap bins :)

WIP Perpendicular Ovals - Fabric/Colour
This is the bit I suck at - picking the fabrics/colours.
I don't know why I'm so bad at this part, if I knew I would fix it! but this is the part that give me the most trouble... but until you do this bit you can't do the other bits so I go online and look all over the place (blogs, pinterest, instagram, flickr, random google image searches) until I see something that sparks my interest. What did it for me was the yellows and greys that I was seeing, they looked so bright, fresh, modern and all round awesome - BOOM job done!

Until.... I asked my friend if she hated any colours in particular or if she had a colour scheme in mind.
I should have kept my mouth shut. Oh why didn't I keep my mouth shut? I knew she didn't hate yellow, we've been friends since we where 14 for gods sake - why did I ask?!
But no, I opened that can of worms and she said... earthy tones - which to me means browns - there goes my bright quilt! (in hindsight I should have asked before I brought enough yellow fabric to sink a battleship).
Some frantic online shopping and one stash raid later....

Perpendicular Ovals
Success! and it only took a few hours, a lot of swearing and some of my 'never gonna use it' fabric.
I think I might add a border of some sort so the measurements might not be right by the end - I'll let you know
Now all I have to do is decide on colours and what fabric I'm going to use...

W.I.P - Perpendicular Ovals
The "W" in this particular W.I.P stands for Wedding quilt (so maybe it should read W.Q.I.P, but that's just weird), and this particular wedding is less than a year away. yikes.
I was going to be all traditional and do a double wedding ring quilt but they are not DWR kind of people (although I almost did it anyway because really want to make one!).

A Recent Finish
Baby Paige
A friend of mine is having her second child soon and what betterThe Baby Shower is this weekend and the quilt is finished... that never happens! They normally sit around 3/4 finished till the 11th hour, I must have been very productive without even realizing it - gotta love it when that happens!
I used a pattern from Moda Bake Shop called Charming Squares*. As the name suggests its calls for charm squares but just cut up some yardage instead (I don't buy charms etc - I really don't know why, just one of my idiosyncrasy's).
Its a mixture of different fabrics and designers - I can't even remember what is in there, I just pulled stuff from my stash.
I may be crazy but I like to piece my backs too (double the fun right!)
This is inspired from another pattern on Moda* - I say inspired because it's not exactly the same, I looked at the picture and winged it.
I used the same fabrics that is on the 'front' with a few thrown in from my scrap stash
Add the label and it's finished!!

Blogging Universe - here I am!
I'm joining the quilting blog movement… albeit very late!
I read so many amazing blogs and each of them have inspired me in some way, so I
figured I would keep the creative train going and hopefully stir something in
others. Even if I fall flat in the inspiration leagues at least I’ll
have a way of recording the things I make (always look on the bright side)
Let’s get the train going…
