Fandom Block 4

Block 4: Tenth Doctor

8 * 10

I happy with how this one turned out.I wasn't sure if all the little wispy bits of hair would work but I think it looks good!
I used Heat N Bond to cut out the shape and stick it to the background fabric and then I free motion quilted over the top. I had some tension issues which is why you can see little bits of light blue tread (that serves me right for not changing the bobbin!) but I quite like it, I think it looks like stars - at least that's what I'm telling myself.

Fandom Blocks 2 and 3

Block 2

7 * 10

This one is pretty self explanatory. I'm English = Union Jack.
actually made this block when the Olympics was held here in 2012, but I didn't do anything with it, so it's just been stuck in a draw for a few years.

This isn't a 'true' union jack BTW the real one is like the one to the right but the fact it's not symmetrical drives me bat crap crazy so to stop me losing my mind I changed it

Block 3

8 * 8

Imagine by John Lennon will forever be one of my favourite songs ergo it would be totally wrong to exclude it.

Fandom Block 1

So after ages of looking online I thought I should finally start sewing something!
I wanted my first block to be embroidery - because if I totally sucked at it it would put a rather large crimp in my plan!

I chose this great picture (from FireFly)

I really liked the simplicity of using words from Jaynes Song and the shape of his hat.

So heres my attempt.

I think I did pretty well considering it was the first time I tried to do something like this.
My consistency sucks so some of words look better than others, hopefully I will get better!

unfortunately I cut the fabric before I thought about what sizes my blocks should be so construction wouldn't be a bitch so this is an odd size of 9*11

Fandom Quilt

The idea for a fandom quilt has been floating around my head for a while now, layouts and themes have changed multiple time (one of the reasons I haven't started it) but I think i'm finally ready to start it!!
What I'm planning is to have everything I love be represented - Books, TV shows, films, music everything. I'm going to have the blocks different sizes to keep things interesting visually (that's the plan anyway)

kinda like this (but not with the sizes that are written)

For the last few days I've been trolling the internet for inspiration (because I'm obliviously not the first person to think about a Fandom Quilt) and OMG there are some wicked crazy ones out there that far exceed my skill or commitment level, (seriously google them).

So for now I'm going to find pictures etc and hopefully start creating...

So I'm not a good blogger...

So not posting anything for 8 months probably mean's I suck - I can't even defend myself that I was kidnapped by aliens. What actually happened was Netflicks.

I have been doing stuff! Here's the proof

Third Baby Quilt

So I've already said where this pattern is from, the only thing i did differently is I added the elephants.
When I had it laid out on my floor the corner looked really bare, so I just appliquéd some elephants on and now I think its perfect.

I used a panel for the animals (obviously, I am not even 2% skilled enough to make those) and used blocks of prints in-between.

The reason its got those coloured corners is because I screwed the binding up and there was no way I was gonna do it again!
I kinda like it though, so it was a happy accident.

I quilted it differently than I usually do, no meandering for this quilt! I went with thin lines (I know, really not difficult)

Perpendicular Ovals

Wedding Quilt 2015

This was a monster and there was no way to get a picture of it laid out so here is it folded instead! I'm actually really annoyed with myself because I didn't get a picture of the back (or maybe I did and then deleted it because I'm a moron)

Random Pillow

Side 1 was string pieced (not with paper, because I really hate that method. I just sewed scrap strips together and cut them into squares).
Side 2 is a Hazel Hedgehog (pattern by Elizabeth Hartman)

WIP: Hexi duvet cover

I'm using a mix of blue/green solids, with a few prints thrown in for luck (who can resist a print?).
This one is still on going, I'm going back to my roots and English Paper Peicing it - needless to say its taking forever.

Abandoned Projects

I'm pretty far behind the Economy Block bandwagon, because they didn't really appeal to me but I saw a picture on instagram that looked something like this >> and decided to give them a bash.
Not really thrilled with it enough to continue, maybe it'll make a nice back for something further down the line

Instagram strikes again as inspiration.
I finished this and then didn't know what to do with it, so it sits in a draw with the one above.
Which i admit is a shame because I really like some of the elements on this, like the different coloured flying geese, triangles and the hexis (which I EPPed).

Almost up to date the next post is the real reason I logged on...
